Platform Edge Protection at Colas Rail and Story Contracting
What is Platform Edge Protection?
One of our most unique and innovative products is the Platform Edge Protection. This system has been specifically developed for the safety of workers and the public on railway platforms, virtually eliminating the risk of falling from platforms and coming into conflict with a moving plant or train.
With the growth of passenger numbers expected to rise and with there currently being more than one billion passengers’ journeys made through the Network Rail, it means that UK railway infrastructures will need to deliver major investment programmes for railway protection safety.
Platforms are open to the environmental elements which can make surfaces slippery, and with regular footfall, accidental falls can take place from both passengers and workers.
The system is manufactured from Pultruded Glass Reinforced Plastic and through Its non-conductive properties, it allows for the resistance to corrosion, high tensile strength, and impact resistance whilst maintaining a lightweight nature. All of these factors, in turn, will eliminate the need for bonding when working in an electric railway environment, the system also offers more advantages than metallic alternatives.
Platform Edge Protection at Colas Rail and Story Contracting Ltd
The Platform Edge Protection Barrier has been approved and tested to European Standards and provides enough strength to the lateral force of someone falling against the system and onto the tracks, therefore preventing serious injury or even death! Already, our Platform Edge Protection has been used on numerous platforms across the UK and has seen great investment from companies such as; Colas Rail and Story Contracting Ltd.
Colas Rail were significantly impressed by the innovative rail solution after we provided them with a demo and decided to keep 50 metres of the Platform Edge Protection on Hire, with the possibility of further quantities needed in the future.
