TuffCover has been specifically developed to fit over a standard-sized manhole and allow heavy machinery to operate onsite without difficulty.
With only a single person required, installation can be made in as fast as one minute!
The Problem
Currently, the problem within groundwork and construction industries is that permanent manhole covers are not installed until near the end of the construction phase. This is because this allows for a final finish and prevents damage to permanent covers and pipes. However, until this time has reached, the open-access hole presents a hazard to site personnel and vehicles.
With the fact in mind that the number one cause of site accidents is due to slips, trips, and falls, ideally these open-access holes need to be covered.
Current practices to date involve covering access holes using pallets, sheets of plywood, barriers, or heavy metal plates. Having said that, each of those solutions poses a problem.
Plywood cannot support heavy vehicles or site machinery and this creates both traffic restrictions and reduces the site working area, as well as producing safety concerns on-site and allowing for debris to enter the drainage system.
Metal Plates need to be lifted into place with specialist machinery due to their heavy-duty nature, which is a time-consuming and an inefficient use of manpower. Metal Plates also haven’t been tested for maximum load weight and can easily be dislodged and lastly, barriers block off areas of the working site, therefore restricting overall access.
The Solution
Our TuffCover provides a revolutionary alternative to current practices and provides a heavy-duty solution whilst being lightweight and cost-effective. The system has been manufactured with improved safety in mind, with only a key required for removal of the system, reducing chance of theft and is easy to transport by hand, by a single person.

Need to knows
We advise not to use Steel Tracked vehicles with the TuffCover unless pre-authorised and agreed beforehand, traversing and aggressive movement on the TuffCover may cause damage to the system and and this will be the sole responsibility of the customer and user of the system. When assessing ground conditions on site we advise seeking professional engineering guidance if there is any doubt. It is the users responsibility to assess the load-bearing capacity of the ground, and to only operate vehicles within the weight that the ground is capable of safely supporting.

We deliver to the site in pre-wrapped packs with pallets incorporated and banded with polyester strips, to safely transport and store using mechanical equipment.
